DANIEL C. LYONS JOINS HEALTH RISK PARTNERS
RICHMOND, VA, June 18, 2010 -- Health Risk Partners announces Dr. Daniel Lyons to join the HRP team.
Dr. Lyons will serve as Chief Medical Officer and will assist HRP in our ongoing efforts to provide the industry's most complete and accurate data analytics and improved care management solutions.
Dr. Lyons has been a contributor to the health insurance industry for the past two decades, following a distinguished career in clinical practice. He held two positions at Independence Blue Cross, a large regional health insurer in southeastern Pennsylvania. In his role as Senior Vice President, Government Programs for IBC, he was responsible for IBC's insured government and social mission programs. Collectively these programs provided comprehensive benefits to over 500,000 members through a variety of health plan options, and garnered over $2.5B in annual revenues. Under Dr. Lyons' leadership, IBC introduced a number of innovative products, becoming the first health plan in the nation to participate in the Medicare Special Needs program. He was also founding President and CEO of Veridign Health Solutions, LLC. Veridign provided comprehensive Medicare Advantage outsourced marketing and administrative services to insurers and providers.
Dr. Lyons serves on a variety of industry councils, is a member of the Board of Visitors of Temple University School of Medicine, the Board of Advisors of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and Adjunct Faculty to the School of Public Health at Jefferson University. He recently held a federal appointment to the CMS Advisory Panel on Medicare Education, and chaired the panel. He is presently on the editorial board of The American Journal of Medical Quality, the Medicare Advantage Newsletter, and Medicare Patient Management, and has been a frequent invited speaker to Medicare industry conferences.
Dr. Lyons holds a M.D. degree from Temple University, a Master's Degree in Public Health from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a B.A. from the University of Virginia. During his clinical career, he was a board-certified family practitioner and geriatrician, practicing in central Pennsylvania. He served on physician quality committees for several health plans and was a physician reviewer for Pennsylvania's QIO.
